Things we said today
I miss the Twee debates of early 2009. Once winter starts to set in you always need something irrelevant to discuss on the long evenings. It isn't very often that the indiepop scene throws up a scenario where people will disagree and put forward very reasoned arguments for their particular stance and point of view. The lack of reasoned discussions about a bigger picture is disappointing as I think some great writing comes from it. Has indiepop got a bigger picture? I never include forum discussions as a form of debate. I have said previously that forums are just an extension of the playground. You will have the cool kids where everybody agrees with what they say, the ones who just want to stay neutral, and the others just hide in the corner and hope they don't get bullied. The amount of time people spend on forums could quite easily be converted into writing a blog or something similar. The Fuzzy Pop blog was great and if I remember correctly it was them that started the whole twee discussion thing. The good thing about it was that it stirs up your memories and reminded me of the cutie scene that developed, and is pretty much ignored now, as the movers and shakers don't know anything about it. This post isn't a request to re-open the debate as I think it has been discussed more than enough, but what is it that really matters? Is the twee thing going to be as good as it gets? I hope not, but hey it's only music isn't it?
