just don't forget you ever knew me

I have always considered myself a Wedding Present fan even though I only really like the early material. After George Best and Tommy, then forget it. I often find myself thinking that David Gedge would be better off writing for other artists. An example of this is the song "Brassneck". In the past, I have found this song virtually unlistenable. I found the unsubtle musical arrangement and vocal delivery so annoying I would have to stop the song after 30 seconds, sometimes I could push this to maybe a minute. But after being given a prompt by Mike from They Go Boom!! about a version of Brassneck by My Autumn Empire the song has taken on a whole new perspective. It is a truly wonderful song. Full of aching regret, what ifs and what could have beens. Maybe I have been too hard on David Gedge over the years. All I know is that Brassneck is a masterpiece.
