In case any of you have been wondering why there has been a lack of posts of late (no? oh, okay) it's because I have been putting most of my creative energies into The Proctors. Aside from attempting to play bass guitar, I help Gavin who is the musical genius of the band with ideas for arrangements, sounds, structures etc. Our new song is called "Space Station" and is a bit of a departure for us as it has quite a disco feel. We are all big pop fans and it was the style that suited the song, so we just went with it. We have our first gig on 2nd April in Cambridge with The Sunny Street, Peru, and The Lost Homeboys. We are on first so if you are thinking of going, get there early! Unfortunately, this will be the last pop gig Gary will be hosting as he is now concentrating his efforts on the new Dufflecoat Records label. The first EP has just been released! Well done Gary for keeping indiepop alive in Cambridge!
The new tunes that The Proctors have recorded can be heard on our Soundcloud page here.
Aside from my involvement with The Proctors, I have felt a bit uninspired by the indiepop scene recently which has also contributed to my lack of writing. I was quite optimistic around New Year that some new sounds were coming through from some interesting bands, but I haven't heard anything to excite me for a while. In some ways the scene is starting to resemble the early 90s where everything just got so conservative and in the end died. I hope that isn't going to happen as there are some great people involved worldwide in a pop movement that is genuinely radical in some ways, but ultra narrow minded in others. Questioning the validity of people's tastes and whether they are genuine or not, is surely a sign that some people are taking things too seriously, or that things are becoming more and more insular. This is a bad thing and not a good sign. I think it's time to take a few chances and shake things up a bit. A change is as good as a rest.

In other news, my latest crush is on Aubrey Plaza. OMG! She is so cute.
